Embercombe Country Fair – Saturday 6th June 2009
Come and experience a truly traditional and inspirational country fair at Embercombe, Higher Ashton on Saturday 6th June 2009 from 10am until 4 pm. It will be crammed packed full of exciting activities for all the family.
You can explore our 20 acres of mature broadleaf woodlands which we have restored and coppiced over the last year allowing the abundant wildlife to flourish. Wander along our informative and beautiful nature trails and follow our moth and butterfly trail which will take you through five natural habitats.
There will be activities for all to get involved, giving you a closer experience of life in and around a woodland. You can make it a hands-on day and have a go at green woodworking and take part in our besom broom-making workshop or learn how to make gate hurdles. We will also be making oak pegs and shingles and offering pole lathing and a wattle-hurdle demonstration.
There will be workshops in traditional crafts such as felt making, basketry, pottery, bread-making and forging allowing you to get a feel for creating your own masterpiece from a natural resource. You can learn how to build bat and bird boxes for different species, including barn owls, and help us erect them in the right places.
